UiTM Campus in Mukah to be completed by 2014 — Rector

KOTA SAMARAHAN: University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah branch will
have its own premises on a 500 acre piece of land in 2014. “The ground breaking
ceremony for the new building will be held on April 9 and the construction will start
under Private Financial Initiatives (PFI),” disclosed UiTM Sarawak rector Prof Dr
Jamil Hamali..He said this when officiating at the Sarawak UiTM ICT Expo 2011 at
the campus here yesterday. “Our present premises (in Mukah) is a temporary one and
located at the shophouse and we only have 250 students since its establishment five
years ago. With the new building. I hope it can accommodate up to 2,000 students,” he said.

Jamil said the move to build the new premises was in line with the initiative to support
the government to develop the surrounding area for Sarawak Corridor of Renewable
Energy (SCORE). On the new UiTM campus located at Kampung Pinang in Samarahan,
he said the construction is on schedule and can accommodate 4,000 students is expected
to complete by three years’ time. “In three years’ time, the main campus and the new
campus will have at least 10,000 students,” Jamil said adding that the present campus can
accommodate up to 5,000 students.
